-Thanks
Jon for accepting to be interviewed for my online magazine,
to start this interview off I'd like to know more about
you: where were you born? What were your interests growing
up?
I was born in Iceland, in the city capital
of Reykjavik. My family and I moved to the United
States to New York and then Colorado when I was 6, then
finally we ended up in California. I have fond memories
of Iceland, although I didn’t like the weather compared
to California, a lot of my family are still there on
my dad’s side. My mother is from Thailand, my parents
met when they were university exchange students in New
York. My interest was running track and field, long
jumping and surfing. They were my main interest, I ran
in nationals in high school so I was pretty dedicated
and stoked on that. And of course with the company
of my two gnarly brothers Bin and Helgi who kept me
entertained every minute of my youth.
-When
did you first think about modeling?
I was
in Paramount's Great America theme park in Santa Clara,
and a scout for an Internet modeling Web site approached
me and asked me to model for their website.
-Tell
me about your first photo shoot, what was it? Were you
nervous during it?
My first photo shoot was
for Macy’s Catalogue in San Francisco. I was quite
nervous because I had no idea what I was doing. Like
making poses and changing your body positions in front
of the camera was a really different experience for
me. I am use to surfing waves and not really being self
conscious. So it was weird.
-You won
the contest "ManHunt 2004", what or who made
you decide to compete in it? What advantages for your
career did you get from it?
I decided to
compete in because my mother agent City Models asked
me to try out for it. So I was like sweet free plane
ticket to Los Angeles, why not nothing to lose. I did
get a lot of recognition when I was at castings and
industry events so it was pretty good publicity.
-Do
you think you have already achieved your main purposes
in the modeling market?
Yeah kind of, I
mean all you do is look good and have fun with it. I
do it because you know its something different but I
am not going to do it all my life so.
-Besides
your career in modeling, what are your professional
projects and goals?
I want to be an astronaut;
hopefully fly to space I find it so interesting when
I look up into the sky. I want to join the airforce
and fly fighter planes but the problem is I don’t want
to go to war!
-Who is your favourite photographer
you have worked with?
It would have to be
Bruce Weber, he is so extroadinary, he makes you feel
very comfortable and makes you look really good while
doing so, a fantastic energy and a joy to work with.
Chuando and Frey would have to be my favourite high
fashion photographers, they bring such a intense and
great passionate energy to the shoot and makes you look
really good.
-What you do in your spare
time?
I spend alot of time surfing and reading
when I'm not working. I enjoying surfing alot, I grew
up surfing everyday. I read alot of philosophy too.
-How would you describe yourself in a
few words? Are you outgoing or introvert?
I
am outgoing but very laid back. Hahaha I don’t want
to be the centre of attention but if need be I can handle
it with the ladies. hahaha
-When you were
a child, what was your dream for the future? Has it
changed?
I
didn’t really know what I wanted to be until I was in
8th grade when my father Haflidi who is a scientist
about the universe, so since then I wanted to do something
with space, maybe work for NASA one day too. It hasn’t
changed since then.
-Thanks again Jon
for taking your time to reply to my questions, I wish
you a safe and happy winter!
